Description
You will receive one package of these natural approximately 1 1/8 inch to 1 1/4 inch long Shiva lingam beads, also sometimes referred to as Shiva lingham, Shiva lingum or Siva linga. These Shiva Lingum are unusual in that they have been drilled as beads. Lingum means ‘symbol’ and Shiva refers to Lord Shiva, the sacred God deity of the Hindu religion, so these stones are considered to be a symbol of the Hindu Lord Shiva. According to Tantra, Lingam is a symbol of Shiva’s phallus in spiritual form and many consider Shiva lingum such as these to be a talisman of fertility. Shiva lingum stones are also said to promote the awakening of the kundalini. Photos are stock photos, you will not receive these exact stones but ones very similar.
Shiva lingam stones are primarily made of microscopic quartz mixes with iron deposits that lend their color. They tend to naturally form elongated egg like shapes and come only from the holy Narmada River in Western India where they are hand collected and hand polished by the natives of that region. It is believed by some that these special stones were formed in ancient times when a meteorite fell to Earth and iron oxide from the meteorite fused with native rock to create swirled patterns of the native greyish rock mixed with the reddish brown of the meteorite iron ore. Over time, it is believed the river then polished the fused rock into rounded shapes. One of these beads and a simple cord or thong would make a beautiful minimalist necklace.
