Description

These are real beetle wings with an amazing striking natural color that is both metallic looking and iridescent, mostly blue tones with some electric green tones on the outside of the wing and dark brown or black on the inside of the wing. These differ from our other elytron in that they have more blue tones to them. These elytra jewel beetle wings are approximately 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches long and 1/2 inches wide. These are natural items with natural variations so some are a little bit more green and some are a little bit more blue in color and they also vary slightly in size and shape. They are a light weight item similar to a light balsa wood but are fairly strong considering their lightness and thinness.

In their native country of Thailand, Elytra beetle wings are often used for earrings, necklaces and costumes. The elytra of a beetle are actually the outer covering that goes over the top of the wings to protect them when not flying. Jewel beetle wings never fade because the color comes not from dyes or pigments that fade with time, but instead is structural and comes from the way the light reflects off the structure of the wing. These beetles wings are legally and sustainably farmed and their bodies are edible and often eaten so that no part of the creature goes to waste. Out of country buyers, apologies but due to US export law, wildlife product like insects cannot be legally shipped outside of the United States.
