Description
These are natural banded magpie, CITTARIUM PICA shells, sometimes called Indian Top shell. They have been polished smooth to reveal the natural lustrous pearly nacre of the inner shell. Smooth and shiny, these shells are approximately 2 inch to 2.25 inches long with mouth opening sizes of about 1 inch to 1 1/4 inches long. Photos are stock photos, you may not get these exact shells but ones very similar. Each one has a unique and slightly different pattern to its shell.
These shells are sometimes used as hermit crab shelters. However, magpie shells are a bit heavier and more cone shaped compared to other types of turbo shell and most hermit crabs prefer other types of turbo shell if given the choice. Nevertheless, sometimes a crab will choose a magpie shell anyway and due to this shell’s great beauty, many crab owners do offer a few of these shells hoping they will be chosen. These sea shells have been legally and sustainably harvested. Out of country buyers I am sorry but sealife cannot be legally shipped outside of the United States without extensive paperwork and fees.
